Secure your browser
Your browser is your gateway to the Internet. And in 2026, that gateway is wide open by default. Let's fix that.
The real problem
Every time you open a web page, dozens of trackers get to work. Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, ad networks, retargeting scripts... On average, a site loads 15 to 40 trackers. And your browser, by default, lets them all through.
Which browser to choose?
Firefox
The best compromise. Open source, customizable, privacy-respecting by default with Enhanced Tracking Protection.
Brave
Chromium-based with a built-in ad and tracker blocker. Good Chrome alternative without Google.
Chrome
Secure, yes. But it's Google's browser. Everything feeds the ad machine.
Safari
Decent on Mac/iPhone. Intelligent Tracking Prevention blocks many trackers.
Settings to change immediately
On Firefox
- Settings > Privacy: switch to "Strict" mode.
- Search engine: replace Google with DuckDuckGo or Brave Search.
- HTTPS-only mode: enable it.
- DNS over HTTPS: enable with Cloudflare or NextDNS.
The 4 essential extensions
uBlock Origin
Ad and tracker blocker. Lightweight, open source, ultra-effective.
Bitwarden
Password manager. Free, open source, audited.
ClearURLs
Removes tracking parameters from URLs.
Skip Redirect
Bypasses intermediary redirect pages used for tracking.
FAQ
Is Chrome dangerous?
Chrome is secure — frequent updates, good sandboxing. But it collects a lot of data. Good security, poor privacy.
Do extensions slow down the browser?
uBlock Origin actually speeds things up by blocking ads. The other recommended extensions have negligible impact.
Does private browsing protect my privacy?
Not really. Private mode only deletes your local history when you close the window. Your ISP and the sites you visit see everything.
